disappointed, October 22, 2008 By chicken260 (North Charleston, SC) - See all my reviews This review is from: ThermaPAK 15.4 inch Black Memory Foam Laptop Cooling HeatShift Bag (Personal Computers) I must confess, I bought this product because I was intrigued by the "HeatShift" cooling pad. The pad is filled with granules of some substance that turns gel-like when sufficient heat has been absorbed. I'm guessing the concept behind the cooling pad is that the substance inside has a high heat capacity, so it just whisks heat away from the laptop mostly via conduction. There are shallow "airflow channels" (hence the bumpy look) all over the top surface of the pad to accommodate the cooling fans typically found on the bottom of laptops.
My theory is that once the granules of mystery material inside the pad have turned to jelly, the "airflow channels" are no longer as deep as they were when the material was in granule form (since granules will tend to have lots of little spaces between granules, and jelly won't).
Right or wrong, all I know is that I hear my laptop cooling fan kicking on far more often (and it sounds like it's straining) after 5+ hours with the... Read more

Worth the portability, October 23, 2008 By This review is from: ThermaPAK 15.4 inch Black Memory Foam Laptop Cooling HeatShift Bag (Personal Computers) It was basically what I expected. I got the bag and pad for 25 bucks shipped so that is why I thought it was worth it. The bag is very thin and didn't think my laptop would fit but it did (HP DV4000). The memory foam on the bag is great though it wont stop any high impact or save you from breaking the laptop when dropped. Memory foam isn't really for impact..more for comfort. So if you love your laptop and want it to sleep well get it this. The cooling pad is OK...sure it doesn't work as good as a USB fan powered one but it is much more portable. Since most laptops have one exhaust side you have to rotate the pad beneath the laptop because only a corner of it will turn to gel then it just gets hot. I am using it on my lap right now, though, and it is comfy and doesn't scald my skin. Overall good buy. Works in bed too!
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful what you see is what you get., September 11, 2009 This review is from: ThermaPAK 15.4 inch Black Memory Foam Laptop Cooling HeatShift Bag (Personal Computers) its a cool product. i like it because i can carry my laptop around in the case with the pad and even put my charger in the inside pocket. since im a college student and dont like to lug it around in my backpack its easy amd comfy to carry. a perfect fit for my sony vaio. i just dont like those bulky laptop bag/cases/brief case/shoulder bag type of things, its too much to carry so thats the main reason why i got the case. and the pad does keep it cool.
